Winter Training, trainers and gear

We are heading into that time of the year when it can be a little more difficult to get outside. Perhaps you don’t have quite the right gear, or you live in a place where you cannot clean your bike easily, or maybe its just too risky weather wise to ride outside. These are all legitimate things that can throw a wrench in your fitness or mental health.

Indoor bicycle trainers have been around forever, (figuratively of course) but in the last 4 years have come a long way in terms of technology. Companies have been focusing on making the experience of riding indoors much better, less monotonous. The space now consists of hardware and software working together. Software for “virtual riding” has opened the doors to more interest, more game like, which has enhanced the on bike enjoyment. For those of us that want to focus on gaining fitness over winter months – the hardware side has vast improvements also, with better data capture and the metrics of your workouts so you can track and improve leading to fitness progress.

Of course everything has a price, and the good news is you don’t need to spend $3000 on a Peloton bike. Getting started on indoor riding can cost a couple of hundred dollars and go up from there.
