Tygh Valley and Maupin are small towns located in the beautiful areas of Wasco County Oregon. Located close to the Deschutes river, Maupin is very much a river based town with a lot of rafting activity. Tygh Valley acts as a launch point to this shorter loop route which takes in some beautiful road climbs, sweeping canyon descents and river side traverses.
This is a perfect ride in months July, Aug, Sept, October due to lower temps and escaping rain clouds from the West. Be cautious before you ride and check out the wind speed and direction. Winds can be fierce out in this area especially in the warmer months.
The route has the option of two climbs, the Shears bridge climb is a must in my books as it’s has amazing plateau views as well as great descent. The second climb is Bakeoven Rd in Maupin, ascending Bakeoven Rd is not much of an interesting climb but really a fun sweeping road descent for those who lean the curves.
