Century Lightweight Jacket – by Showerspass

The good news is you don’t actually have to ride a century in it.

The Century jacket is a well featured rain shell from Showerspass. It uses what is called a Artex 2.5 layer material, meaning there is an outer fabric, a membrane, to keep water out and still let vapor escape, and a printed inner design, that allows the material to feel better on your skin.

The jacket keeps you dry inside with a High breathability 25,000 gsm rating and sheds water with Hight waterproofness 25,000mm making this no slouch and the specs are up there with the rest of them which clearly puts this in a performance category.

Tech: Care for your waterproof gear

Fit wise, it’s not racer cut, but it’s no floppy club cut either. The fit is slightly bigger in the chest and jackety in length. I’m 6ft 3 and 165lbs and the length was great in arms and a little looser in body, as to be expected as im pretty skinny. The womens version is cut a little longer in the rear for extra coverage “drop tail” in marketing speak.

Why I like the Century Jacket

It has a nice lightweight and airy feel on the body, no fuss just a competent light shell. The airiness makes it feel like it floats effortlessly around your body and the material has a nice soft in hand texture to it that makes it enjoyable to touch on daily interactions. It feels like a garment vs a plastic bag taht some rain jackets can feel like, if those extremities make sense to you. There is a vibe of practicality and no fuss – something I can grab and go. I really like the rear pocket of most of Showerspass jackets, easy for extra gloves. The other side is that because it’s lightweight the jacket has multiple uses, pop it on while grabbing an urban lunch, stuff it in your day pack on a hike.

The arms are bike friendly long, it has large adjustable glove friendly cuffs, a nice collar height and the standard array of rain jacket features, like the ability to clip a hood should you wish or the upper back vent. A new feature is the sternum clip at the top of the main zipper, this allows you to use the jacket unzipped while clipping both sides together near your neck, allowing for breathing without looking like a disheveled floppy rain mess, you know what I mean ;-)

Since the jacket is pretty thin and flexible, it packs pretty small and will go in a gravel bag no problem.
