Theres a ton of different indoor training setups out there, much has to do with how much space and money you have. As you can see, this is my current setup. I might get a lot of criticism for this style and choices but there are specific reasons why I went this route. The accessories and gear used here can be used with many setups, lets jump into the gear that can help and the features that make indoor training a little better / more fun or more effective !

left to right: Power sensor on bicycle crank arm by 4iii, Wahoo floor mat by Wahoo, Krietler Rollers, Sweat towels by kinHwa, Headband by Halo, ipad stand by TabHolderix, Smart Fan by Elite Aria
Floor Protection
A good protective matt is needed in most cases, for sweat collection, protection from cleat damage but also for absorbing vibrations if you live in apartments with many neighbors I went with a Wahoo matt, i’m sure there are very similar but less expensive ones. This one is pretty thick foam and has lasted me many years even- $90 – here
Tablet / ipad Stand
I just recently acquired this Tabholderix stand and have to say its a very good design for the price. It has a metal base of about 4lbs (which you can add extra weight if needed) . It’s stable, easy to adjust and use, as it’s a cantilevered design, its sturdy, well built and works well providing good clearance for front bicycle wheels and to reach over to the bars
I found that some reviews of these types product are by people who don’t understand physics or even follow instructions correctly. Yeah due to limits of design this stand is not rock solid, will never be, but that really doesn’t matter in these cases.
When I purchased It was on sale for $19 normally $29 which I still think is a great deal – here

Cooling Fans
The Fan in the picture here is a test product an Elite Aria, it’s a Smart fan, that costs quite a bit of money ($400) and adjusts fan speed automatically based on Power, Heart Rate or Speed, so quite fancy. Most of the time I use a $69 Lasko Commercial fan which is really good, but not a smart fan. link here, also see my review of best fans under $100 here.

Riding Towels
I bought these KinHwa gym towels from Amazon years back. They were relatively inexpensive and have a good size (not too larger, not too small 16″ x 30″ ) and a hanging loop. My experience is with these types of products is to pay a little more, they are still inexpensive, but the extra money will buy you much nicer, softer feel and better construction. They are “microfibre” thus synthetic, so they quick dry. They are $16 for 3 – here

Headbands
The Halo headbands are second to none, they have a rubbery sweat channel to divert and keep the sting out of your eyes. They make a ton of different versions to meet preference and work really great. My note hear is to handwash them as they will last longer. Rinse them in the sink after a workout… done. A deeper review here. But you can purchase the one I love the most here – Halo II Air . These will set you back around $20
Power Measurement
If you are not using a turbo trainer like the Kicker, then it’s critical to have some form of power measurement to link up to your training software, like Zwift, Rouvvy, Trainer Road etc. This year I chose a basic, accurate and easy to setup system with the Single sided 4iiii. A power sensor on your bike, which is great as you can use all year round inside or out. I made a deep review here and basically you can find a range of solutions from ~ $250 and up.

Rollers!
And finally rollers! yes rollers are my preferred choice ! After years of going back and forth. I like the realistic feel and having a small option that can easily fold away, I also easily swap use my bike outside, which I often do in the winter. My preference here are Krietlier Rollers, as they are butter smooth and the construction and quality is amazing. They are not cheap and a set of rollers will set you back $500. these rollers I have had and used on / off since 2010, replacing bands as needed, In addition this year I have added a extra resistance unit called the Killawatt, which is a simple to install system to add variable and lots of resistance as needed.

Drop a question below or let me know your setup.
